Meet the Founder
Dr. Marchell Coleman, a passionate advocate for social justice and equity, has dedicated her career to addressing the systemic challenges faced within underserved and marginalized communities, where resources are often limited — particularly for school-age and adolescent girls. Witnessing firsthand the barriers these young girls encounter — from the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) to the lack of trauma-informed support — Dr. Coleman was inspired to create Embrace Her Roots, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
Pillars of Empowerment and Growth by Embrace Her Roots
The Pillars of Embrace Her Roots provide a trauma-informed and equity-centered framework for supporting girls from underserved and marginalized communities. Rooted in prevention, education, and healing, these pillars reflect our commitment to creating safe, inclusive spaces where school-age and adolescent girls can rise whole, strong, and free.
Prevention & Early Intervention
We focus on breaking cycles of trauma by increasing awareness of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), providing early identification resources, and equipping families, schools, and communities to respond with care.
Education & Empowerment
Through workshops, mentoring, and skill-building, we help girls strengthen self-awareness, resilience, and leadership capacity. By affirming their identities and nurturing their voices, we empower them to thrive academically, socially, and personally.
Healing & Resilience
We create trauma-informed programs and safe spaces where girls can process, connect, and rebuild. Centering mental health, emotional wellness, and cultural identity, we cultivate resilience that carries into adulthood.
Community & Equity
Change happens in the community. We work alongside parents, educators, and partners to expand access to resources and advocate for equity, ensuring girls from marginalized backgrounds have the opportunities and support they deserve.
